Protecting your Wolfenstein-ET installation/configuration
It's always a pain in the back when your computer/Windows fails or breaks. Not only you lose all your data (documents, pictures etc.) but also all your applications and games. Imagine losing all your Wolfenstein-ET installation! All the maps, soundpacks, configurations…you would need to download all of them again…I am sure it happened to most of us at least once. What I would suggest is to install the game on another partition on your computer. That way if your Windows crashes or break down you still have your ET installation intact. To do this:
- Back-up all your data. There is a slight risk in the below procedure so if you don't feel very comfortable with this get someone to help you or don't do it.
- Create a new partition on your hard disk. You can do this using software like Partition Magic (you need to buy this specific software - try searching for "free partition software")
- Install Wolfenstein-ET on your new partition. You can select the installation location during the installation process. Make sure you don't skip any screens during this process.
If you already have an installation on the same partition as Windows (usually drive C) you can always re-install on the new partition and copy/paste the contents of you Wolfenstein folder to the new installation folder
Your ET installation and configuration will now be a bit safer. Even if Windows crashes you can re-install them without losing your maps, soundpacks, mods etc. Note that the game won't appear in your Programs list but you can always create a shortcut to your desktop.
