A couple of error tips
Here are a couple of common issues and how to resolve them:
Incorrect ET.exe version and ET vulnerability
You will need to upgrade to the latest version of ET 2.60b if you are getting this error when trying to connect to a server. A bit of background information: a vulnerability on ET version 2.60 was discovered and patched with 2.60b. If you try to connect to servers running the latest patch without having patched your own PC then you get this error. I have noticed that sometimes you don't get the error even if you haven't patched your own ET installation.
I still see a lot of servers which are unpatched and hence unprotected. I strongly suggest you patch them with 2.60b. If you are renting a game server then ask your provider to do it. The consequences of not doing this don't look good. Players who are aware of this vulnerability hop on unpatched servers and take them over. They set themselves are super admins (e.g. level 8) and do what they want (use bots, kick and ban players etc). I have to admit that it happened to me as well. I had to shut down the server and patch it.
Get the patch at Filefront or at Softpedia
Guid problems
You might sometimes get error or have problems related to your ET quid (your unique identification when you are playing Enemy Territory) e.g. empty guid not allowed etc. Sometimes guid problem appear in different way e.g. not being able to connect to any server. If you suspect that your guid is the problem then follow these simple steps to delete it and get a new one:
- Go to your Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory directory and take your etkey file and copy it somewhere safe on your hard disk. Make sure you have removed it from your directory
- Start ET and bring the console down. Type /pb_cdkeyreg
This will create a new etkey in your Wolfenstein directory. Try connecting to any server.
Note that any admin rights you have on any server, are related to your etkey. The above operation will remove such rights since you are replacing your etkey.
